Please email, call or message through our Facebook page, Mumford Meadows Farm, to inquire about a kid, breeding, goat or other animal for sale or to place a reservation on an animal or breeding. A deposit of 50% of the price of the animal or up to $100 per animal may be required to hold that animal until it is ready for pick up. At a time when that animal is ready for pick up, buyer has up to 5 days to facilitate pick up unless prior arrangements have been made.
This deposit is non-refundable pending the following circumstances: something unforeseen happens to the animal in question while still under the care of Mumford Meadows Farm, we decide to retain the animal in question or the condition of the animal changes, (for example, if we decide to wether a buck kid). We reserve the right to retain any animal at any time or to wether any animal we don’t determine to be breeding quality prior to the date of pickup. In these cases we will refund a deposit. If a deposit is received, it is expected the buyer will have made arrangements to pick up the animal within 5 days of that animal being ready to leave the farm. This will be planned and prior notice of at least 2 weeks will be given for when that animal is ready, we reserve the right to determine when an animal is deemed ready for pickup even if arrangements for a bottle baby have been made. These decisions are in the best interest of the animal. If the buyer does not show to pick up the animal within these parameters, the animal will be placed back up for sale and the deposit will be kept for time lost and additional time needed to find a new buyer.
Any goat sold as breeding quality will be sold with ADGA Registration or a registration application unless otherwise specified, as well as a health record of vaccines and any treatments that animal has undergone. Here at Mumford Meadows Farm we only vaccinate for CD & T. We deworm when needed and may treat young kids for coccidiosis if a problem develops. We feed mostly Poulin grain, a 18% sweet feed, a 16% sheep complete pellet with a timothy forage extender pellet, alfalfa pellet, some black oil sunflower seeds, minerals and of course a good quality hay. During certain times of the year many of our does get turned out to a small pasture area for grazing.
Any animal sold is sold as a healthy animal when it leaves the farm. As we cannot control the conditions at other farms or residences we cannot guarantee an animal's health once it leaves the farm. There are simply too many factors that go into an animal's health and the stress of moving an animal only contributes to those factors involved. Wet, drafty environments are not advised. Goats are amazing at acclimating to cold weather provided their housing is draft free and dry. Another major contributor to an animals health is feed, when an animal is sold we will provide enough of our ration to wean the animal onto a new ration using the ¼ method. It is highly recommended that a buyer begins that process within the next 2 feeding to minimize stress. It is also recommended that goats are given free choice hay while they acclimate to their new surroundings. If health papers are required for shipment or desired by the buyer for any reason the buyer is responsible for the cost of those papers the farm visit by the vet unless prior arrangements have been made.
As previously stated if registration is desired the animal will be sold with either registration papers or an application for registration, if registration is desired the animal will also be tattooed appropriately. We also disbud our goat kids within the first week or 2 of them being born to minimize stress on the kid. If horns are desired on your goat, the price of the animal must be paid in full prior to that kid being 4 days old, otherwise all kids are disbudded. We will also trim hooves on any goat sold prior to leaving the farm.
Goats are never sold as a single animal to a farm with no other goats. It is highly recommended that a buyer buys more than one goat, as having a travel buddy reduces stress tremendously. A discount will always be given for multiple purchases, the amount varies based on the animals being purchased. Details of arrangements including deposit information will be specified in a written email to the potential buyer. A receipt for such a deposit will also be sent via email to provide a written document of the agreement.
All that being said, we take great pride in our animals and the quality we have acquired. We have spent years raising animals, gaining experience in not just how to care and raise these animals, but what we like and expect from our animals in terms of quality and performance. We have spent countless hours researching and thinking about the breedings we do, always trying to improve on the previous generation. We take great care in our program and the animals we create and as with most people who raise animals, we have spent who knows how much money on our genetics. For these reasons most of our prices are firm, and most often the pictures provided are the best pictures I have. Please be mindful as you inquire about animals that this is a hobby for us, we aren’t making “bank” doing this stuff, we have primary jobs Cory is a teacher and Lana is a nurse, we are not one of these big farms kidding out 25-100 does, with price tags of $1000 per animal, and although we invite questions and conversations about our animals, and I especially will always help anyone with a problem if one arises, I ask that a potential buyer not just waste our time fishing for the best deal, ask for copious amounts of pictures and endless questions that can be easily answered in a google search (or pin our answers and management against another breeder, different things work for different folks) and overall, please do not just waste tons of our time for nothing. We raise goats because we love having the milk, we drink it, make delicious cheese, lots of soap and we just like goats. If you would like to come by the farm and see how we do things you are more than welcome to make an appointment and come check things out. Biosecurity is important so although you may not be allowed in the pens with the goats we can certainly look over things and talk through any and all questions you may have about our management practices. We simply ask you to be mindful of your intentions and understand that time is something we never have enough of. Again, this is not meant as a deterrent, as we are more than happy to spend time, answer questions and help solve problems for folks who would be willing to do the same, we only ask that you are considerate in your requests.
Thank you for your time and we look forward to hearing from you with any questions you may have. Best, Mumford Meadows Farm.
